Inside Africa
March 15-Sept. 7, 2008

Journey into the heart of Africa and experience its people and rich cultural history. Inside Africa takes visitors through a journey to selected sites on the world's second-largest continent and offers a deeper understanding of the vitality, richness and significance of its people from historical and contemporary perspectives. In addition, visitors may enjoy hundreds of exotic butterflies in a rainforest setting, witness a South Florida Calusa Indian welcoming ceremony, experience a life-sized limestone cave and see a mammoth and mastodon from the last Ice Age. Permanent exhibits include Northwest Florida: Waterways and Wildlife, South Florida People and Environments, Hall of Florida Fossils: Evolution of Life and Land, and the McGuire Center for Lepidoptera and Biodiversity, which features the screened, outdoor Butterfly Rainforest exhibit with hundreds of live butterflies.

Paradigms and the Unexpected: Modern and Contemporary Art from the Shey Collection

February 10-May 18, 2008

Discover 100 paintings, sculpture and drawings by 75 internationally renowned 20th and 21st century artists, all drawn from the local collection of Carol and Stephen Shey. In addition, visitors can discover international art in five permanent collection galleries focusing on African, Asian, modern and contemporary art and photography, along with three temporary exhibition galleries featuring original and touring exhibitions. Admission is free.
